Erin and Ken will discuss the impact of the tax proposals on succession and estate planning. This will include an overview of the proposals with respect to Income Sprinkling, Holding Passive Investments Inside a Private Corporation, Multiplication of the Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption and Converting Income Into Capital Gains.
Erin Podio
As a senior tax manager in Grant Thornton’s succession and estate planning practice, Erin is responsible for leading and executing estate planning and tax advisory engagements for Canadian business owners and high net worth individuals. Erin is able to advise clients on a broad range of Canadian tax compliance matters and tax planning solutions. Her experience includes providing innovative and effective tax strategies to individuals and corporations to minimize taxation, as well as providing estate and succession planning advice to business owners. Erin has worked with clients across a diverse range of industries in the privately held business sector including real estate and manufacturing. Erin is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Estate Planners’ Council of Hamilton.
Erin has completed the CPA In-Depth Tax Course and she holds the following designations: CPA, CA, BA, MAcc.

Ken Lancaster
Ken is a tax partner in the Southern Ontario tax practice of Grant Thornton LLP and in and he provides tax planning solutions to corporations, individuals, trusts and partnerships. Ken develops and implements proactive tax strategies on corporate reorganizations, purchase and sale of a business, corporate and personal tax planning, succession and estate planning for family businesses, and SR&ED claims. Working in our privately held business segment, Ken primarily works with our owner-managed clients. Ken has significant experience across all industries and in particular, the manufacturing and distribution sector. Ken is active in the community and currently Treasurer for Habitat for Humanity Hamilton. Ken is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Estate Planners’ Council of Hamilton.
